Cold drying

This is good news. Coating, in particular the drying of the coating is very energy intensive. The industry norm is you heat the coating as much as you can without cooking it.

Although around here we have very cheap 100% renewable energy, electricity is not what a coating factories are using. Natural gas is the preferred choice. Low tech and very cheap…but with side effects for the environment. You consume a lot of gas to dry each layer of coating of a few hundred feet of canvas.

So, to make a long story short, the coatings we are using can dry at room temperature without emitting harmful solvents or generating greenhouse gases. You could say, wow these people really have the environment at heart, but although we do feel we all have to do our part, the main reason is cost savings.

Yep, it is in the end cheaper to go green (after lots of money spent in research and in a lot of testing) and this is the most powerful argument for a company. Going green is profitable, and that’s very good news.
